This paper discusses the degree of alignment between the UK's development strategy and that of the EU. It argues that working with the EU can be beneficial, particularly when economies of scale can be harnessed to help achieve common goals faster. In order to reach its full potential, however, the authors argue that the EU needs to improve the policy coherence, funding, coordination, focus and policy capacity of its development efforts.
