The author examines the discrepancy in humanitarian donations to similar-scale disasters. Comparing the South Asian tsunami to the Pakistani earthquake, German TV news reported ten times more, British TV news five times more, and US print and television media four times more on the former disaster. Yet, the level of media attention is not the only factor determining the willingness to donate; it is not negligible, for instance, that the Tsunami occurred during Christmas holidays.
