This article investigates aids fatigue as a media excuse for lagging coverage on the topic. It finds that although HIV/AIDS affects many people in South Africa and Namibia, there is only a small space dedicated to the topic in the media. The lack of HIV/AIDS coverage, particularly informative and substantive coverage, is a cause of concern. The authors trace the lack of media interest back to Namibian and South African lack of civil society duties and national media that do not realize or recognize their role as agenda setters.
