This piece summarizes trends in international media coverage of the EU between January 2003 and June 2004. The European elections present an opportunity for journalists to lament the decline of support for the European Union in the 25 member countries. Especially in Germany, the approval ratings for EU membership have declined from the early 90s. The author contends that by focusing on the executive branch and framing the Union in the context of national politics, media coverage has accelerated the devaluation of the European unification ideal.
