Iran is playing down the EU decision on the imposition of additional sanctions in July 2012 but is nevertheless beginning to feel the pressure of the sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council. A step-by-step approach to resolving the problems, aided by the increasing pressure of sanctions, would have a better chance of success and could also have positive effects on Iran and its protagonists.
