This paper examines Sheikh Abdullah Azzam’s book 'Al‐Defaa aan Ardhee al‐Muslimeen aham furood al‐ayaan (Defending Muslim Lands is Among the Most Important Collective Obligations)' published in 1985. It is considered his masterpiece and, using his clerical connections, Azzam took the time to get this fatwa endorsed by leading clerical names in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
