This issue of the Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst includes analytical articles and field reports on security issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region in October 2011. The analytical articles examine the strain on Iran-Azerbaijan relations relating to lake Urmia; Uzbekistan's relations with Germany and the US; tensions between Pakistan and the US over the roots of the Haqqani network; and Kazakhstan's plans to establish a network of research universities. In addition, some shorter field reports provide accounts of the US decision to lift its embargo on Uzbekistan; controversy over the constitutional status of the Kazakh language; Franco-Russian economic cooperation in the North Caucasus; and trade talks between Georgia and the EU.
