This paper describes the nuclear capabilities that are understood to exist in the Middle East. For most of the countries involved, these capabilities have been declared to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as part of a civilian nuclear program. To the extent to which nuclear facilities also can be used for non-peaceful purposes, this potential dual-use is noted. Current and past nuclear activities relating to military purposes are also described.
