This paper looks for possible incremental steps that would bring forward the project of a regional zone free of nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. It starts from the hypothesis that such steps are possible but at the same time dependent on the parallel improvement of political relations in the region. The paper argues that these initial steps can be taken by the parties without giving up vital national security interests. However, they might be implemented selectively if some of them appear more feasible than others.
