This paper describes the status of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) nonproliferation treaties, agreements, and other related instruments in the 18 countries of the greater Middle East. These are Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The analysis covers nuclear weapons, biological and chemical weapons and ballistic missiles. It also deals with nuclear safety and the proliferation-terrorism nexus.
