This brief assesses the situation in Kazakhstan since the 2011 upheavals in the country. These include an upsurge in Islamist activity, terrorist attacks, an oil workers' strike, and other events in the town of Zhanaozen which claimed many lives. The brief also discusses the political scene in the country and Russian-Kazakh relations.
