In the run-up to the Rio+20 Conference, several proposals for bringing new momentum to global sustainability policies are being negotiated. This paper looks into four areas: The introduction discusses the summit with a reference to the Rio process since 1992. Chapter two pursues the question of whether the proposed concept of a green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication will achieve international consensus. Chapter three explores the current debate surrounding the sustainable development goals. Chapter four addresses the reform of the UN Environment Programme. Chapter five discusses a proposal to transform the Commission on Sustainable Development.
