This issue brief argues that India should make a cold, calculated appraisal of its policy options in Afghanistan. This includes deciding the criticality of Afghanistan for India's security and recognizing the policy implications of this evaluation. According to the author, the Indian policy establishment needs to start factoring into its security calculus the fallout of a Talibanized Afghanistan and eventually a Talibanized Pakistan.
