This paper assesses the usability of hypersonic technology for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF, after a long hiatus, is currently going through the process of a major modernization. India can ill afford the high costs and risks related to the development of the most advanced aircraft, Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft. Instead, the author advocates, the country should look at other means for achieving assured penetration capability, such as hypersonic technology.
