This paper examines the impact of democracy assistance on NGO sustainability in Kyrgyzstan. The research suggests that although many NGOs have achieved substantive success in Kyrgyzstan, they still depend on international assistance in order to carry out their activities. Furthermore, this situation is caused by a lack of alternative funding options, such as corporate philanthropy and government assistance. Finally, USAID assistance in particular is awarded to a select number of organizations which are themselves highly sustainable, however the aid is not reaching the bulk of indigenous NGOs.
