This paper deals with "forgotten migrants", a term which refers to people who migrate internally within the borders a country. The author highlights issues and problems that arise as a result of internal migration which are particularly relevant in post-socialist countries. The paper is based on a field trip to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The author concludes that these issues and problems stem partly from the systems of population registration implemented by the soviet governments of the past. This is apparent from reviewing existing literature on the "hukuo" and "propiska" system used in China and Russia respectively.
