This research paper discusses some aspects of the topic of state and religion and how it is perceived in Murgab and Khorog, in the Eastern part of Tajikistan. If finds that the state is not an entity that is defined by linear structures and unity. In addition to the state, transnational movements in the region provide other important markers of identity.
