This paper discusses the prospects for promoting sustainable development during the Rio+20 process and the EU's role in negotiations. In particular, the focus is on EU policy with regard to key issues on the Rio+20 agenda. These issues include the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, institutional reform, and agreeing future objectives for sustainable development.
