The idea of building roadways, railroads and a multi-modal transport corridor linking India's Northeast states to Southeast Asia is significant in many respects. This paper examines the implications of such infrastructure development on the economic prospects and trade in Northeast India. In particular, the author discusses the readiness of the region to open up and looks at some key issues that need to be considered if Northeast India is to witness development and improve standards of living.
