This monograph investigates how regional institutions and the process of institutionalization in East Asia contributes to the regional security, peace, and stability. It focuses on the prospects for transforming the Asian region into a security community, where regional states commit to peaceful relations and the avoidance of war with one another. The paper examines the links of economics, institutions, and cultural factors to security, through an analytically eclectic approach which combines the realist, neo-liberal and costructivist perspectives. The authors focus further on the role of inter-governmental institutions to regional security, stability, and community building.
