This study addresses safety and security in North Bengal. Some research has indicated that underprivileged, unemployed youths are the most likely to be targeted for recruitment by extremist groups. The research focused on ascertaining the views of young women and men on safety and security issues, recognizing that responding to their perceptions, aspirations and concerns may prove the most beneficial in terms of identifying ways in which to improve safety and security in North Bengal and minimize the threat of extremist groups. Among the recommendations made is that young people should be directly consulted on ways in which to improve safety and security in their communities and should be actively engaged in this endeavor.
