This report provides an overview of issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region, with a particular focus on security-related topics. It explores how Armenia’s presidential elections reveal flaws in the country’s justice system and how China is seeking to increase its commercial and political influence in the Caspian region through pipeline projects. This is followed by a discussion of Kazakhstan’s dependence on oil and gas revenues and the potential of political instability due to inflated popular expectations. Furthermore, the report analyzes Azerbaijan’s process of drafting a national security doctrine before concluding with news bites and field reports from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.
