The commentary discusses US-China relations in the light of the 9/11 attacks and international and US foreign policy developments since then. The author argues that the attacks initially seemed to have moved both countries closer together due to a positive Chinese positions towards the US war on terror and a softer foreign policy approach toward China on the part of the US. Changing relative power positions however remain a risk for the longevity of good relations between the two states.
