The commentary discusses the US missile defense strategy and the missile defense system that fits best to it. The author argues that the Aegis missile defense program should be made as effective as possible as soon as possible. A commitment that according to the author is in no way inconsistent with a missile defense policy that permits more rapid advancements than the Obama Administration’s Phased Adaptive Approach. This includes the simultaneous pursuit of ground-based and space-based systems.
