Dec 2005

This report surveys the small arms and light weapons (SALW) situation in Albania. It evaluates the impact of SALW and the distribution of small arms in 2005. Also examined are SALW legislation and regulatory frameworks, national and international control capacities, and amnesties and weapons collections. This report finds that while successive governments have made good progress in the fight against small arms proliferation since 1997, important challenges remain with regard to civilian weapons possession, trafficking, stockpile management, and the control of international arms transfers.
