In the 2011 Global Peace Index (GPI) report published by The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), Sri Lanka jumped from the 130th position to the 103rd. This paper examines the sociopolitical environment in Sri Lanka showing that the GPI ranking is not indicative of a sustainable trend and that ‘peace’ in itself is a problem for certain pockets in Sri Lanka.
