Despite medical advances and improvements in sanitation, water supply, nutrition, housing, and education, poor health continues to plague many countries in the world today. This paper looks at the scope of global health challenges; assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the institutional landscape for global health; examines US and international global health policy issues; and looks at the most recent developments and options for strengthening the global public health regime.
