This brief looks at Israel's view of the conflict in Afghanistan. It argues that Afghanistan's neighbors are successfully taking advantage of the conflict and inter-tribal rivalry outside their borders. US and NATO presence has become delegitimized, as has the corrupt Afghan political leadership. Afghan national troops are becoming less legitimate whereas religious troops are gaining ground, helped by the safe heaven provided by Pakistan. It concludes that most bloggers anticipate either a future civil war in Afghanistan or an Afghan-Pakistani war.
