Finland’s decision to acquire advanced semi-stealthy Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSM) from the United States has significant regional and strategic implications. First, the fact that Finland will be only the second country to acquire the JASSM reflects its close relationship with the United States, which it could parlay into US security support when needed. Second, the JASSM will significantly change Finland's ability to safeguard its territorial integrity and project power beyond its borders. Indeed, given its versatility, and despite the fact that it is a conventional weapon, the JASSM may also act as a significant deterrent in the region.
