This article describes the leadership transition process in China's People's Liberation Army (PLA), which is an integral part of the leadership transition process in China. In November 2012, the Communist Party released the list of new postings of the PLA's top leadership. These postings were a precursor to the 'election' of the members of the Central Military Commission of the PRC at the 18th Party Congress. The cascading effect of this changing of the guard will keep the PLA unsettled for some time. Such a large scale transition is unprecedented in the history of the PLA.
