On September 6, 2012, the US State Department issued a press statement announcing that it had formally removed the Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist from its list of global terrorist groups. The announcement was long overdue, argues the author. This move show that although the strategy to contain communism in Nepal has failed, the US has managed to adapt to Nepal's changing political landscape where the Maoists have emerged as a major political force.
