This paper analyzes Europe's dependency on imported energy. The author describes how the European reliance on foreign energy sources will only continue to grow in future decades and examines the related security implications. The paper states that European energy security requires incremental resources be developed in a timely manner, along with the construction of adequate transportation systems to reliably deliver the energy to European markets. The author explains how European energy security can be addressed directly through energy-specific policies, but that ultimately energy security is inextricable from the broader economic and foreign policy challenges and solutions facing the EU.
