This paper discusses the impact of Swedish and Finnish EU membership on the European bloc. The author analyzes the distinct political contributions of Sweden and Finland to the EU, and describes how both countries were able to bring traditional Nordic values to the European Union, thereby contributing to a distinct 'northern dimension' in the EU. The paper examines the specific role of the northern dimension in the EU and provides an assessment of its political successes.
