The Islamic Republic of Iran is among the key players in the Middle East. Its revolutionary behavior and its ambitious, if ambiguous, nuclear program have added to its neighbors' anxieties about its goals. However, in the wake of the Arab Spring, Iran has found its influence waning. This paper points out that widespread regional instability has not been conducive to the extension of Iran's power or influence. It adds that Tehran now faces a less tractable regional environment with allies weakened and adversaries emboldened.
