This policy brief discusses the significance of "forward looking" defense talks held between China and India in January 2013. The author portrays the range of possibilities in Sino-Indian ties going forward as follows: The incoming Chinese leaders have expressed their preference for "developing relations with India" in a "stable" fashion. Such intent has gained credence because of the latest Sino-Indian defense talks at the time of heightened military tensions between China's close friend, Pakistan, and India.
