In India, state elections are often seen as the barometer of the mood of electorate towards national parties in the context of their likely fortunes in a countrywide general election. Over the years, however, the voting patterns in general elections have not always followed the assembly election trends. This paper focuses on the state assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
