This case study describes the process of decommissioning paramilitary arms in Northern Ireland. The authors aim to monitor the implementation of the Belfast Agreement and to analyze the governing provisions of the peace accord with particular emphasis on the role of the domestic and international actors involved. The study assesses the potential of a satisfactory process of demilitarization in Northern Ireland in order to foster peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
