This paper explores Australia's growing trade with China and the potential tensions that this may create within the ANZUS Alliance. The author argues that even if it is impossible to completely divorce economic consideration from strategic engagements, Australia is in a robust enough position to independently pursue its own interests in each area. The country does not have to choose between economic engagement with China and strategic alliance with the United States.
