This article looks at the two themes surrounding the foreign and defense policy stances of the Republican candidates for the 2012 US presidential race. The first theme is a growing isolationist sentiment among the leading candidates, some of whom advocate for the immediate withdrawal of forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. The second theme concerns multilateralism and includes suggestions from candidates to reduce funding to the United Nations and to wind back the terms of the New START agreement with Russia.
