This commentary reflects on Obama's visit to Myanmar and discusses the status of the country's democratic transition. The author argues that since the 2010 democratic election, the interests of Myanmar and the United States are slowly converging. More broadly, Obama’s visit to Myanmar should be understood as part of a larger American foreign policy objective, in line with his administration’s pivot to Asia.
