This commentary analyzes Russia's strategic interests in Central Asia, particularly in Afghanistan. In the latter case, the author argues that no nation has more to fear from the withdrawal of US-led forces in 2014 than Moscow, which will face the possibility regional instability and the radicalization of its own Muslim populations.
