This brief examines the political situation in Pakistan in the run up to the elections in May 2013. The author talks about the caretaker government, the main electoral candidates and the return of the former military ruler, Perves Musharraf, and his upcoming trial for treason. He suggests the military will be more concerned about the meaning of a civilian trail against a former Chief of Army Staff than about Musharraf himself. Furthermore, he thinks that the outlook for the country is uncertain.
