This brief examines the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) need for Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) and looks at how the negotiation process for possible options has proceeded up to 2013. The author attempts to find some perspective on what appears to have been a difficult procurement process. He suggests that Dassault may lose out on the contract it was negotiating with India and that the difficult procurement process may lead India to keep the French arms industry at arm's length in the future.
