This commentary examines the debate surrounding nuclear weapons in South Korea following its northern neighbor's nuclear test in 2013. The authors observe growing public support for the deployment of nuclear weapons in South Korea, either through an enhanced US presence or through an indigenous capability. South Korea's elite are increasingly debating the issue; however, any decision to acquire such weapons will have serious implications for the region.
