This commentary questions the benefits of stationing nuclear forces in South Korea. The author argues that such forces will not contribute to deterrence nor will they affect South Korea's bargaining power in relations with its northern neighbor. Instead, the author advises South Korea to pursue a more assertive foreign policy, closer engagement with the US and a renewed emphasis on multilateral efforts in order to force a change in North Korea's position.
