This commentary argues that shale gas has the potential to change the relationship between China and the US. It offers an opportunity for China to decrease its dependence on energy sourced from volatile regions while also reducing Russia's bargaining power. The author concludes that closer energy relations are in the economic and national interests of both China and the US.
