This commentary argues that China's political and economic structures are inadequate for its long-term goals. This is because its system of governance has been slow to reform and will not be able to resolve domestic challenges. Moreover, China's zero-sum foreign policy undermines its own interests in a peaceful and prosperous world. The author states the case for reform and talks about issues related to the US-China relationship as well as possible outcomes that could result from differing policy choices.
