Indonesia sits between two oceans, two continents, and three maritime trade routes where safe transit is a necessity rather than an option. Clearly, the nation's location is geostrategically important, and therefore an 'area of interest' to both the United States and China. That then raises a critical question for Jakarta, as this commentary notes -- just how pro-Washington, pro-Beijing or neutral should Indonesia ultimately be?
