This paper examines the political situation in Malaysia following the country's 2013 election. It argues that, despite his election victory, Prime Minister Najib still faces challenges from his own party. Najib has indicated his support for some policy reform to help overcome the social and economic problems stemming from the effect of wage rises on the country's international competitiveness. However, he is likely to meet resistance on reform from his party as well as powerful interest groups.
