Following Pakistan's elections, Nawaz Sharif is poised to become prime minister in June 2013. This brief expects a period of improved democratic governance in a break from a historically divisive political system. The author argues that domestic issues are likely to be prioritized, especially civil-military relations. The implications for Pakistan's foreign policy toward India and the West are also briefly considered.
